Going Beyond Technology

Working with events of every size and scope across the country for almost 30 years, we realized one thing – a lot of event staff and volunteers aren’t proficient in using radio communications.  For a lot of events, this is the main method of relaying information in real time and knowing how to use a radio is a key part of event success.

To help out event managers, race directors and anyone who is struggling to use a two-way radio, we created this beginner training video to teach event staff and volunteers the basics.  This video is based on practices that we’ve found to be essential in the field, as well as habits that have just made things a lot easier.

Button configuration and programming can depend on what type of radio you’re using for your event, and may be different than what’s shown in the video.  If you’re using a different vendor, it’s important that you ask them for a channel map, which shows channel designations (such as medical, parking, operations, etc.), and a radio diagram, detailing what buttons do what.

For any event that we support, we offer radio training classes on an individual and group basis.  We want to make sure that you’re 100% confident in your ability to use a radio prior to your event.  All of our radios are engraved with a 1-800 number.  If you get stuck or are having an issue, give us a call.  We also offer on-site tech supporting for your event.  To learn more, contact us.

An Authoritative Guide To Event Communications

Along with radio training, we realized that there’s a huge gap in knowledge between communications providers and event mangers and race directors when it comes to radios in general.  With all the knowledge we’ve gained over the past 25 years, we’ve put together a list of 52 event communications tips that are good for any event professional to know.

Our tips range from what to ask or expect from your communications provider when they’re setting up your infrastructure to best game day practices to general recommendations.  Our goal with this is to bridge the knowledge gap between communications providers and event managers.  Whether you choose us as your provider or not, we want you to know what to expect during the process, as well as help you avoid some of the common pitfalls we’ve seen over the past 25 years.

After reading our event communications tips, we hope you walk away with useful knowledge that you can apply to your event – large or small.  We also hope that you gain a new understanding of some of the challenges that communications providers face when designing infrastructure and planning for your event.  Events with challenging topography, such as mountains, valleys, forests and deserts can create unique situations that require special attention, and in some cases extra or custom infrastructure and equipment.  It’s important to know that even small details such as terrain can affect how well your radio works.
